Navigating Disney with the DAS Pass: A Guide for Families with Special Needs
At Kingdom Elite Travel, we believe every family deserves to experience the magic of Walt Disney World, no matter their needs. For guests with disabilities, Disney’s Disability Access Service (DAS) is one of the most valuable tools available. With thoughtful planning and the right resources, DAS helps create a smoother, more enjoyable vacation where families can move at their own pace.
What is the DAS Pass?
The DAS pass is designed to support guests who have difficulty waiting in a traditional queue environment due to a disability. This can include:
- Physical limitations
 - Cognitive differences
 - Sensory sensitivities

Instead of standing in a crowded, noisy line, DAS allows families to schedule a return time for an attraction, essentially holding a virtual place in line while you wait elsewhere more comfortably.
It’s important to know that DAS does not allow guests to skip lines completely. Rather, it provides an alternative that reduces stress and allows families to experience attractions without the challenges of traditional queues.
Who Qualifies for DAS?
Disney recently updated its guidelines to emphasize that DAS is primarily for guests with developmental disabilities (such as autism or similar conditions) that make waiting in standard lines very difficult.
- Guests with only physical or mobility limitations may not qualify if they are otherwise able to wait in a line. Wheelchair and scooter users, for example, are generally accommodated through accessible entrances instead.
 - Eligibility is determined case by case during the required video chat.
 - No medical documentation or doctor’s note is required.

How to Apply for DAS
Registration must be completed before your visit through a live video chat with a Disney Cast Member. In-person registration at Guest Relations is no longer available.
Key Details:
- Registration opens as early as 60 days before your trip and must be completed at least 2 days prior to arrival.
 - The guest requesting DAS must be present during the video call, as Disney takes their photo during the process.
 - Once approved, DAS is valid for the length of your ticket or up to 365 days (whichever is shorter).

Steps to Register:
- Visit the DAS registration page on the Walt Disney World website.
 - Log in with your My Disney Experience account.
 - Make sure your park tickets and reservations are linked.
 - Request a live video chat with a Cast Member.

Once approved, the DAS pass links directly to your account in the app. They are no longer doing DAS Advance Planning, which allowed you to pre-book up to two attractions per park day before your trip begins. You will now have access to the DAS feature once in the park.
Using DAS in the Parks
Once you arrive at the parks, DAS works seamlessly through the My Disney Experience app:
- Open the DAS section under “My Day” or “Tip Board.”
 - Select an attraction.
 - Book a return time (usually the standby wait minus 10 minutes).
 - When your return time begins, the DAS guest must tap into the ride first at the Lightning Lane entrance before the rest of the linked party enters.

Important Rules:
- You can only hold one DAS return time at a time. After using or canceling it, you can immediately request another.
 - Return times do not expire, you can use them any time after they become active until the park closes.
 - DAS groups are generally limited to the DAS guest plus up to three additional people (exceptions may be made for immediate family).

Other Accessibility Options
- Attraction Queue Re-entry (AQR): If a guest needs to temporarily leave a standby line (for example, due to a medical or sensory need), Cast Members can issue a re-entry pass so you don’t lose your spot.
 - Alternative Viewing: While not part of DAS, Disney sometimes offers reserved or accessible viewing areas for shows, parades, and fireworks. These are not guaranteed and vary by day.

You can also read more on Disney’s website at the Accessibility Home page.
Setting Realistic Expectations
To avoid disappointment, it’s important to know what DAS cannot do:
- It does not guarantee immediate access to rides.
 - It does not apply to attractions without both a standby line and a Lightning Lane.
 - Misrepresenting needs to obtain DAS can result in serious consequences, including removal from the parks.

For families traveling with special needs, DAS is more than a logistics tool, it’s peace of mind. It allows you to enjoy attractions at your own pace, take breaks when needed, and focus on making memories together.
