Hi there! If we haven’t met yet, I’m Kayla Castro, a Certified Autism Travel Professional, a Special Education Educator, but more importantly a fellow Autism mom. I live in Central FL with my husband (veteran), 13 year old son, (ASD) and 9 year old son (neurotypical). I am a dedicated mom with a deep passion for supporting the autism community through my role as a special needs travel agent. My commitment stems from a desire to create inclusive and accessible travel experiences, ensuring individuals with autism and their families can explore the world comfortably and confidently, just like my own. My expertise lies in crafting customized itineraries, considering sensory-friendly locations and accommodations, and providing resources to make travel a positive and enriching experience for the entire family, and today I am excited to be sharing all about Beaches Resorts and why I believe they are the perfect haven for families on the spectrum.
Traveling for the first or 10th time with a child on the spectrum can bring a mixture of excitement but also apprehension. Many ASD families that I have spoken with have said that they have always dreamed of taking their child on a vacation. But of course, with that being said, the fear of how they would cope with the unfamiliar environment and potential challenges leaves special needs families feeling anxious and fearful. According to the IBCCES, that is why 87% of autism families do not travel. However, 93% of autism families said they would travel IF there were autism-friendly options available.
The unique challenges faced by individuals on the spectrum, such as sensory sensitivities , reliance on routine, communication barriers, adapting to unfamiliar environments, and safety concerns means that their vacation destination and environment should include a level of understanding and accommodations. Opting for a destination that prioritizes inclusivity not only ensures a more enjoyable experience for the family but also contributes to the overall well-being of the child on the spectrum. This choice allows families to create lasting memories without the added stress often associated with unfamiliar or non-adaptive environments, fostering a positive and enriching vacation experience for everyone involved.
Beaches Resorts stands out as an exemplary vacation destination, recognized for its unwavering commitment to inclusivity and accommodations. With its Certified Autism Centers, Beaches Resorts aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive experience at its three different locations: Beaches Negril, Beaches Ocho Rios, and my favorite, Beaches Turks & Caicos. Specifically designed to cater to the diverse needs of families, including those with children on the autism spectrum, Beaches Resorts provides a welcoming and understanding environment , with a focus on creating a memorable and stress-free experience for every guest . These 3 destinations go above and beyond to ensure that families, regardless of individual challenges, can enjoy a truly inclusive and enriching vacation.
Beaches Resorts demonstrates an unparalleled commitment to accessibility and understanding the unique requirements of families on the autism spectrum. Designated quiet areas within the resort provide a retreat for individuals who may need a break from stimulating environments, offering peace and tranquility.
Equipment:
Sensory toys and equipment are available upon request.
Sensory-Friendly Events:
Beaches Resorts is holding their second annual Autism Inclusion Week at Beaches Negril from September 22-27, 2024. This week will feature events and activities that are specifically designed for, and catered to, children on the autism spectrum and their families.
& so much more!
This commitment to accessibility goes beyond meeting basic requirements, reflecting Beaches Resorts’ genuine dedication to creating an inclusive and understanding environment for families seeking a vacation that caters to the unique requirements of autism spectrum disorders.
Imagine going on a vacation with your special needs family to a destination that caters to families like yours. A destination with inclusion and accessibility in mind. A destination where you can feel safe and understood. A destination you and your family will want to go back to each and every year.
When I became a travel agent I saw there was a huge need for advocating in the special needs travel world! So I became the travel agent I wish I had when I was traveling with my own son.
Special needs parents share this universal language of just understanding. We all understand the fear & exhaustion that comes with even thinking about going to the store let alone travel.
The what ifs:
What if they get overstimulated?
What if they don’t like the food there?
What if they have a meltdown?
What if they elope?
What if we need a disability pass?
What if we need assistance on our flight?
What if they have sensory processing disorder?
The list goes on & the biggest sigh of relief my clients take is when they realize I understand and personally get those questions & fears. I’ve been there, I AM there.
My goal is to fill your cup with knowledge, resources, hope, and confidence so you can experience your own special kind of magic! Whether your family is special needs or not, I’m ready to help you create enchanting vacations with Kingdom Elite Travel.
